HYDRONIC - UNDER TIMBER

APPLICATIONS

Hydronic under timber heating is suitable for large areas (80 m²+) and can be used in a variety of installations where the timber floor is being installed on battens, secret nailed or glued. Hydronic under timber heating is for warming the floor only and has a temperature limit.

PIPE TECHNOLOGY

The PEX pipe is specific for under floor heating. It is a cross linked polyethylene pipe with oxygen barrier to prevent corrosion.

HEAT OUTPUT

With under timber hydronic heating we aim for a heat output of  80-100 W/m². A combination of flow and temperature balanced to suit the heat load requirement of a room.

INSTALLATIONS

BATON INSTALLATION:

The PEX hydronic floor heating pipe is installed after the batons are laid. Batons must have a minimum height of 40mm to allow for insulation, pipe diameter and airspace. The PEX hydronic floor heating pipe is held to the floor by pins attached to insulation foam and where appropriate batons would require to notches to allow for the pipe to move across the floor.

DIFFUSION PLATES:

The PEX hydronic floor heating pipe can be installed before (on batten lip) or after (from below) the timber flooring is laid. REHAU diffusion plates are a light weight aluminium and contain a groove for the pipe, allowing the pipe to sit directly against the timber flooring, allowing a better transfer of heat. Where appropriate, battens will require a notch to allow for the pipe to move across the floor.

SLAB / SCREED:

The PEX hydronic floor heating pipe is installed with the screed or slab and a glued, floating or secret nailed floor can be installed over the slab. Different installation methods can be utilised so long as the timber floor is NOT fixed to the slab, preventing damage to the pipe.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Timber flooring must be 'floor heating approved' timber. Speak to you flooring supplier about timbers that are suitable for this application. All timber installations require insulation to prevent heat loss.
